Delphine Izzo, Sculpture and Drawing.
I was born and brought up in Angers in France and for the last 20 years, 3 spent at the Beaux Arts, I have devoted myself to my passion, sculpture. I discovered Drawing more recently, thanks to the sculptor François Cacheux, Who thaught me the art of line-drawing, since “a sculptor has to know how to draw” This discipline allows me to approach a subject by choosing a particular angle before attacking a model in three dimensions. Even in my drawings I seek to highlight and bring out volume and mass, all the while expresssing intense feelings. My source of inspiration can be a model, an animal or an object.
I have always been fascinated by Africa and its fauna and a number of my red chalk drawings reflect this. Wild animals greatly inspire me by their strengh and aggression and through my sculptures and my drawings I seek to communicate an expressive truth and emotion that will stop the viewer in his tracks. My sculptures and drawings have come out of a personal quest, however I wish to share them with a wider audience. So I have exhibited widely including at the Museum of Natural Science in Angers, for the Hunting Federation of Anjou, the Beretta Gallery Paris and elsewhere.
“My passion sustains and guides me and must remain my driving force”
It was at the age of 28, after studying law, literature and languages(Japanese), that I turned towards the arts. I applied to follow classes in modeling and sculpture at the Beaux-Arts under professor François d’Orglandes. The creative force rapidly took hold of me and I gave myself totally to my art. I chose animals as my vehicle, giving myself a great freedom of range.
Each, creation demands an in-depth study of the animal and I adore finding out everything about a new subject. I love to learn but I also love to transmit that knowledge. It is with great pleasure that I will present my artistic work
